The Somonauk 8th Grade Girls Basketball Team played exceptionally well on defense Friday night, in the Jr. Ten Championship Game; holding the Indian Creek Timberwolves to 19 points and causing twenty turnovers. Offensively however the Bobcats just couldn't find the basket and lost 19-14. The Bobcats finished the season 7 - 2 in conference and 11 - 6 overall. The girls had a good season and have prepared themselves for the next level of competition.

Somonauk vs. Paw Paw Second Round Jr. 10

The 8th Grade Girls Basketball Team defeated the Paw Paw Bulldogs, last night 25 - 21. The game was a fight to the very end. The Bobcats persevered and held off the Bulldog charge. Statistics are recorded as follows: Points, Assists, Rebounds, minus 2 for Turnovers and Steals. Allison Humes had 10 PARTS, Emily Clark had 9 PARTS, including 14 points and Ashlee Kawall had 9 PARTS, including 6 steals. Abi Weismiller came off the bench and had 7 crucial rebounds. The Bobcats will face Indian Creek in the championship tonight, in Earlville. Please come out and support our girls, on their quest for the championship, at 5:15 in Earlville.

SMS vs. HBR Jr. 10 Round 1

The Eighth Grade Girls Basketball Team defeated Hinckley-Big Rock in the opening round of the Junior Ten tournament, 37 - 11. Statistics are recorded as follows: POINTS, ASSISTS, REBOUNDS, minus 2 for TURNOVERS and STEALS. Allison Humes had 17 PARTS, Abi Weismiller had 16 PARTS, Emily Clark had 12 PARTS and Ashlee Kawall had 11 PARTS. The Bobcats will be moving onto the Semifinals versus Paw Paw, on Thursday night, on their quest to a Championship.

Somonauk Girls vs. Newark

The 7th grade girls ended their season with a loss against a very tough Newark team last night. Kayla Brue had 6 points and Abby Alvarez added a free throw. The loss means the girls ended the season 6 and 8 overall, while finishing 3rd in the conference with a record of 4 and 2.

The 8th Grade Girls Basketball Team were defeated last night 45 - 16 to the Newark Norseman. The team played exceptionally; despite the score. Defensively Somonauk was pressuring the Norseman to cause turnovers all night. The shots just weren't falling, for the Bobcats. Next week, the Bobcats face HBR in the first round of the JR. Ten tournament. The Bobcats are rated second and are positioning themselves for a championship run.

7th and 8th Girls Basketball vs. Earlville

The 7th grade girls improved their record last night with a 22-9 win over Earlville. The win means the girls finish their conference schedule with a record of 4 and 2. The game saw 6 different girls score points, with Kayla Brue leading the way with 12 points.

The 8th Grade Girls Basketball Team defeated Jr. Ten rival Earlville 44 - 14, last night. The Bobcats had twenty-one steals last night; seven of them were from Rylie Olson. Statistics are recorded as follows: Points, Assists, Rebounds, minus two for Turnovers and Steals. Emily Clark had 19 PARTS, Ashlee Kawall had 16 PARTS, Rylie Olson had 14 PARTS & Katie Peluse had 12 PARTS. The Bobcats ended up with their season high of 73 PARTS.

Seventh grade will be at Kaneland and eighth grade will be home vs Kaneland tonight at 4:15.

Somonauk vs. Leland

Last night the 7th grade girls beat Leland in exciting fashion 29-25. The girls were down by 7 in the second half, then rallied back to take the lead with 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter. They never looked back from there. Kayla Brue led all scores with 14 points, and Natalie Rabe added 7 points.

The 8th Grade Girls Basketball Team, played their best overall game of the season, last night; in a Jr. Ten match-up versus the Leland Panthers. The Bobcats executed the offense with proficiency and smothered the Panthers on defense. The defense didn't allow a basket, in the second half. Statistics are scored as follows: Points, Assists, Rebounds, minus 2 for Turnovers and Steals. Emily Clark, Allison Humes and Ashlee Kawall each had twelve PARTS, in the 38 - 9 victory last night.

7th and 8th Grade Girls vs. Indian Creek

Last night the 7th grade girls faced Indian Creek in conference play. In the A game, the girls had a tough shooting night and lost 18 to 6. They found their touch in the B game, and won 15 to 13 on a last second basket by Shayla Morrissette. Abby Alvarez had 7 points and Erica Ziupsnys had 7 steals in the game.

The eighth grade girls lost a very tough game last night 24-21. It was a back-and-forth battle between the top two teams in the conference. No statistics are available at this time.

7th and 8th Grade Tournaments at Sandwich and Plano

The 7th grade girls played in the Sandwich tournament over the weekend. The girls played hard all weekend. They dropped the first game to Kaneland, then beat Indian Creek. Then in the Consolation Championship game, the girls lost a hard fought battle to Drauden Point 23 to 22. Some highlights of the tournament were Kayla Brue's offensive play, scoring 30 total points, as well as Jessica Such and Marissa Guzman's hustle on defense, forcing lots of turnovers.

The Eighth Grade Girls Basketball Team played in an eight team tournament, in Plano. In the opening round the Bobcats defeated Drauden Point 28 - 9. In the Semi-Final game the Bobcats defeated Paw Paw 23 - 14. In the championship game, the Bobcats just couldn't hold off the attack off the Newark Norseman and lost 34 - 20. It was a hard fought effort all weekend for the 2nd place Bobcats. On Tuesday, the Bobcats face Indian Creek here at SMS.

Somonauk vs. Paw Paw

The 7th grade girls moved to 2 and 1 in conference play last night, beating Paw Paw 25 -17. Kayla Brue led the charge, shooting 57% from the field, and scoring 16 points. Marissa Guzman played unselfishly all night, adding 4 assists.

The Eighth Grade Girls Basketball team started last night's game against the Paw Paw Bulldogs, down 12 - 0. The Bobcats kept clawing their way back and were within seven at halftime and then within three, at the end of the third quarter. Tough team defense and perseverance allowed the Bobcats to finally take the lead with three minutes remaining. Allison Humes dominated the boards and led the Bobcats with eleven points. At the 1:38 mark, Paw Paw came back and took a three point lead. Quick passing and proper execution allowed the Bobcats to score four points in under :50 seconds and take the lead. With eighteen seconds left and the game tied at twenty-five the Bobcats spread the floor swung the ball from right to left and Emily Clark found Monique Gonzales open on the wing. Monique banked it off the glass and the Bobcat fans went into a frenzy, with the buzzer beater;

Both the seventh and eighth grade girls began conference play with a win.
No statistics are available at this time for seventh grade. They won 37-20.
The Eighth Grade Girls Basketball Team defeated Hickley Big-Rock 31 - 10. The statistics are scored as follows: Points, Assists, Rebounds, Turnovers minus two and Steals. Emily Clark led the Bobcats with 22 PARTS, Ashlee Kawall had 13 PARTS and Allison Humes had 10 PARTS. The Bobcats will host St. Mary's, on Thursday.

Girls Basketball vs. Plano

The 7th grade girls had 2 exciting victories over Plano last Thursday night. The girls pulled out an overtime victory in the A game, 22 to 20. Jessica Such hit two key free throws to take the lead in overtime, and Kayla Brue sealed the game with a basket on a nice pass from Natalie Rabe.



The girls won the B game 14 to 10. Karla Quezada and Shayla Morrissette combined for 24 rebounds on the night. Karla also had 10 points and Monica Powers and Lauren Zaeske each added 2 points in the victory.



The Eighth Grade Girls Basketball team defeated the Plano Reapers 37 - 6 in the A game and 14 - 4 in the B game. Statistics are recorded as follows: Points, Assists, Rebounds, Turnovers minus two and Steals. Allison Humes had ten PARTS, Rylie Olson had Nine PARTS and Emily Clark and Abi Weismiller each had six PARTS. The Bobcats face Hickley-Big Rock at Big Rock tonight. Good Luck Bobcats!

Somonauk Girls basketball

Both the seventh and eighth grade teams are off to great starts. Although the seventh grade team is 0-2, they played two very tough teams-Sandwich and Yorkville. They competed strong and made both games very enjoyable to watch. The girls seem to be playing well.
The eighth grade girls are currently 1-1. They beat Sandwich and lost to Yorkville. Again, these were two tough teams. They girls are moving the ball well and their defense is tremendous.
Both coach Derber and coach Roberts have these girls playing well and I am excited to see the outcome of the Plano games Thursday night.
Next week, both teams open up conference play at HBR on Monday and home against St. Mary's on Thursday. Both games start at 4:30.

Both the seventh and eighth grade boys lost to Plano Monday night. Seventh grade boys finished the season and eighth grade will play in the Jr. 10 tournament and Sandwich tournament next week.

Seventh grade finished the season in third place and eighth grade finished the season in fourth place.
Eighth grade will play Earlville Monday, December 1 at 4 o'clock at St. Mary's DeKalb

Both the seventh and eighth grade boys lost to Kaneland last night. In the eighth grade game, Trever Seigler had 6 points and Marcus Alstadt had 8 points. The boys showed a tremendous defensive effort.
Tonight the boys play tonight at 6 p.m. at Earlville.

Soccer and Volleyball vs. Indian Creek

The 7th grade girls had their first “A” game win last night against Indian Creek. Eileen Anderson, Frankie Fugarino, Marissa Guzman, Kayla Brue and Morgan Kessler made awesome saves. Jessica “Suchie” Such served 10 straight points in a row. During the “B” game, Chelsea Stearns and Louisa Nunez made great saves. Abbie Alvarez and Anna Olson served terrific all night. Awesome job girls!

8th grade volleyball lost their A game and won their B game. The girls work hard and together Katie Peluse had her first ace.



The Somonauk soccer team had a great win against Indian Creek. The score was 4-0. Jacob Alstadt had 3 amazing goals, and Johnny Wathen with one goal.. The assists were by Kevin Clukey, Ethan Lauritzen and Trevor Siegler. The defensive MVP was Dylan Marshall and the offensive MVP was Ethan Lauritzen.



The B team beat Indian Creek 3-0. Reece Bode had 3 goals. Great assists were made by Ross Raupp, Andy Flowers, and Mark Middleton. Ross and Mark had one great shot each. Way to go!





The team takes on Leland on Friday.

Due to the weather and Leland's field being under water, the game vs. Huntley DeKalb has been cancelled. Somonauk will now be playing Leland AT LELAND this Friday 9/19 at 4:15. Somonauk vs. Huntley will not be rescheduled.

The soccer team beat Paw Paw 10-2 last night. Trevor Siegler scored an impressive 6 goals. Jacob Alstadt, Andy Flowers, Dalton Morris, and Tommy Burton also scored one goal apiece. Taylor Morphey and Reece Bode had some great saves in goal. The defensive MVP was Edward Tuma and the offensive MVP was Johnny Wathen with 4 great assists. They take on Shepard tonight at 4:30.

In the second game of the night, Somonauk beat Minooka 3-0.

Soccer and Volleyball Scores

8th grade volleyball played hard in their game against HBR. Allison Humes had a key block. Jacquelyn Thorp’s serves kept the Bobcats in the game. She served 11 straight points in the second game. Abbi Weismiller had two clutch serves to keep the Bobcats going. As a whole the girls are improving their play every day.



The 7th grade volleyball had a tough loss last night against HBR. The girls fought hard. Erica Z. had a perfect spike and Marissa Guzman played the net great. Jessica Such and Frankie Fugarino made some great saves. Natalie Rabe and Jordan Buell served perfect all night. During the B game Chelsea Stearns and Lauren Zaeske had some great saves. Abby Alvarez served perfectly during those games. Great game ladies!! Don’t miss our next game on Wednesday, Sept. 10.

Next Volleyball game is at Paw Paw Wednesday, September 10.

Soccer lost a tough game against HBR 4-2. No statistics available at this time.
