Welcome to Special Education

Annual Reviews

Annual review meetings will be held on Thursdays beginning on February 2, 2012 and continue until April 18, 2012.  Meeting times will be available from 7:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  Each case manager will have one or two days assigned to them for their annual reviews to be held.  You should receive notice in the mail 4-6 weeks in advance requesting you to call and schedule the time you would prefer for your child's meeting timeWe do understand how difficult it is to schedule time away from your employment to attend meetings; however, we feel your input is a very important part of the annual review process.  If you need to explore other options available, please call 815-498-2314 ext. 233.

If your child has already had an IEP meeting during this school year, he or she will not automatically have an annual review meeting scheduled.  If you would like to request that one be scheduled for your child, please call 815-498-2314 ext. 233 to request that one be scheduled.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Special Education Department at 815-498-2314.

Preschool Screenings/Kindergarten Registration

Somonauk School District's preschool screening and Kindergarten registration will be held on Thursday, March 1st and Friday, March 2nd at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Children aged 3, 4, and 5 are eligible for the screening. The areas of screening include vision, hearing, speech and development. Screening is an excellent opportunity for parents and educators to discuss skills that are necessary for early school success. Somonauk School District will continue to apply for funding from the state in the hopes that we may once again be able to offer the Preschool for All program. At this time, we do not know if the district will receive money to fund the program. In order for children to be considered for our preschool programs, they must be screened on these dates. Please call (815)498-2338 ext. 323 for an appointment.

Kindergarten registration for the 2012-13 school year will be held at the same time and location. Children must be 5 on or before September 1, 2012 to be registered for Kindergarten. Parents need to bring their child’s county birth certificate and social security number to registration. In accordance with state law, hospital birth certificates are not acceptable.

Parents having questions or concerns for children younger than 3 may also call the above number for an appointment. We look forward to seeing you at screening and Kindergarten registration.
