Club OAV (Our American Voice) Somonauk Chapter collected enough Necessities to fill twenty-eight bags for females and twenty-five bags for males. The Necessities will be distributed to a local food pantry in the area. Club OAV is planning on another Necessities Drive next month; with the help of all three schools in the district.

On Friday March 13th we will be celebrating our Second Annual St. Baldrick's Assembly/Shaving Event at 1:30. You will be receiving more information about all of our events as we get closer to the event. Last year we raised over $12,000 as a district, we look forward to another spectacular year, raising funds for Childhood Cancer Research!
Our first fundraiser as a district will be our annual Stocking Hat. This year's grey hat with a blue, yellow and white pom pom, sports BOBCATS embroidered in white and a gold 4 leaf clover in support of children with Cancer. Students and or staff that purchase a hat are allowed to wear this hat in the building throughout the day. These hats will be sold for $15.00, and can be purchased in each building's main office. Please make checks payable to Somonauk CUSD #432. Proceeds will go towards our district's fundraising efforts.

The next scheduled screening date is February 7th, 2020. Screenings are scheduled between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. and are held at James R Wood Elementary.

Congratulations to Brandon Gross in Automotive Technology and Charles Vermeland in Auto Body Repair.

Ms. Reid and her SMS science class jumped right in to frog dissection.

Mr. Roberts always makes sure to the kids get some fresh air and movement during lunch time!

Here are some great Vegetarian options from our food service for lunch!

For 21 years and counting, under the choreography of Bill Morris, JRW students spend the last two weeks prior to winter break on skates! Kindergarten through 4th grade skate during PE class, learning how to literally stand, stop, and SKATE! They get to utilize some carpet in the gym to build their confidence, some may use a "skate mate" (build by Mr. Jr) and gradually move to roller magic! Next week, they get to skate to music! Sometimes it may look a tad like roller derby, but the excitement and encouragement of the students with one another, will warm your heart and make you smile!

Ful house for the JRW concert!

Another great community event is right around the corner in 2020! Come on out for a FULL day of BASKETBALL as the Bobcats take on the Plano Reapers all day!

Congratulations to Somonauk School Board President, Mike Short for receiving his Master School Board Member certificate from IASB.

Dear Somonauk Families,
Beginning December 10, students and teachers across Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in the eighth annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
To take the survey please visit
https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey to begin.
Thank you

Congratulations to Mr. Dave Underhill for being a recipient of the DeKalb County Community Foundation grant. He was awarded $4,200 to purchase additional iMacs to add to his iMac lab in the ART department. Congratulations Mr Underhill!
